Natural Dreadlocks

Natural dreadlock extensions are made from 100% Remy human hair from Russia. We crochet every dread by hand, so it moves, takes heat and ages like your own hair. Sets come in three formats: DE, SE and Extension. Lengths run from 25 to 60 cm in 5 cm steps, and a set holds 10 to 55 dreads. A natural set has no expiration date and lasts for years.

Three formats: DE, SE and Extension

DE, double ended

A DE dread has no loop. It folds over a thin braid of your own hair, so one attachment gives two ends and the braid stays hidden. It is a temporary install, worn for 1.5–2 months and then taken out.

SE, single ended

An SE dread has a loop at the top. The loop goes onto a strand of your hair, and that strand is then braided around the dread. SE gives one end per attachment and suits the face line and the nape.

Extension, permanent

Extension is crocheted into your own existing dreads to lengthen them. It is not taken out. The set is corrected with a crochet hook every 3–4 months.

How natural dreads are made

Each dread is made by hand with a crochet hook and a comb. Extra hair is packed into the tip, so it looks thick and full. Natural sets are always made to order. After you order, Danila makes one dread first and sends you a photo to confirm the colour and texture. Then he makes the rest of the set.

Colours

There are natural blacks, browns and blondes, ombres and mixes of several shades in one set. Human hair can be dyed darker later. Bleaching it lighter is not recommended, so if you plan a lighter colour, choose it when you order. Beads in your set may differ slightly from the photos. See also coloured dreads and ombre dreads.

Length, thickness and quantity

Each dread is 0.8–1 cm thick along its whole length. Length is measured from the attachment point to the tip. The standard lengths are 25–60 cm, and other lengths from 5 to 120 cm can be made to order.

• For a full head with DE dreads you need 40–45 for thin hair, 50–55 for medium hair and 60–65 for dense hair.
• With SE or Extension you need 45–50, 60–65 and 70–75.

Care and wear

• Wash at most once a week. Dilute the shampoo 1:5 with water, apply it to the scalp only and let the dreads air-dry.
• Skip conditioner. It makes the thin braids that hold temporary dreads slip and loosen.
• Never comb or brush the dreads, and especially not the tips. A comb pulls the packed hair out of the tip, and it thins for good.
• Human hair frizzes, and that is normal. The more often you wash, the softer and frizzier the dreads get. A stylist tidies them with a crochet hook every 3–4 months.
• Heat is fine. Natural dreads can go to the sauna, and they can be curled or straightened.
