Rich Brown Dreads are natural DE or SE dreads, 25 to 60 cm long, crocheted by hand from rich brown 100% Remy human hair. One deep brown runs evenly from root to tip, without any ombré or gradient. Emerald green beads and small metal rings add a quiet accent.

Rich Brown Dreads: colour and decorations
The shade is a saturated, warm brown that does not slide toward black. In direct sunlight a faint coffee warmth shows. Indoors it looks deeper but stays clearly brown. There are no lighter ends and no darker patches. A solid shade gets its depth from texture, and the crocheted surface gives it that.
On some of the dreads, you will find emerald green polymer clay beads placed at varying heights. Against the brown, the green looks earthy rather than bright. Small metal ring beads sit next to them and catch the light. Each dread ends in a loose wavy tip that keeps the same brown all the way down. Want other bead colours or thread wraps? Rich Brown Dreads: formats and set sizes
- DE: each double-ended dread is folded over a thin braid made from your own hair, which holds it. It has no loop. For a full install, DE is the usual choice. Extension is the permanent format: the dreads are crocheted into your own dreads and stay in, with a correction every 3–4 months.
- SE: every single-ended dread has a loop at its end that goes onto a strand of your hair. That strand is then braided around the dread.
Most full installs need 40–50 DE dreads. For partial blending or accents, 15–25 pieces are often enough. Lengths run from 25 cm (10″) up to 60 cm (24″), and any of them can be chosen. For the difference between the two formats, see our attachment format guide.
Hair and craft
The hair in this set is 100% natural Remy human hair from Russia (what is Remy hair?). In Remy hair the cuticles keep one direction, which helps the dreads stay soft through weeks of wear.
Each Rich Brown dread is shaped by hand with nothing more than a crochet hook and a comb. We use no wrapping and no machines. Our studio has made and shipped more than 5,000 sets in over 13 years. We make each natural set only once it is ordered.
We check the length of each set, and its thickness of 0.8–1 cm. The final check of each set is done by a maker who has more than ten years of experience. On a uniform brown set, colour matters most. Any dread that looks lighter or cooler than the rest is taken out before packing. The full collection of natural dreads has every shade and size.
Rich Brown Dreads: care and wear
Do not wash more often than once a week. Dilute the shampoo 1:5 and use it on the scalp only. A sulfate-free shampoo helps keep the brown deep. Do not use conditioner. The dreads are held by thin braids of your own hair, and conditioner makes those braids loosen.
Keep combs and brushes away from the dreads. Tangled tips can be pulled apart gently with your fingers. If a knot is badly tangled, you may cut it off with care. The DaddyDread Academy has free care videos for both formats.
A temporary braid-in install stays in for 1.5–2 months. Then the dreads come out, and you can put them in again. Before storing them, let them air-dry flat and do not press them together. A permanent crochet install stays in, and the dreads are corrected every 3–4 months.
We shot every photo in soft natural daylight, though your screen may display the colour slightly differently. Natural hair always varies slightly between batches. On deep brown, the difference is hard to see.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will Rich Brown Dreads fade over time?
Deep browns are among the most stable shades. Long sun exposure may soften the warm coffee undertone a little, though only slightly. You do not need a toning shampoo. A colour-safe shampoo without sulfates does the job.
Who do Rich Brown Dreads suit best?
Many natural hair types blend well with this brown, such as Mediterranean, Latin American, South Asian, East Asian and mixed-heritage hair. It is also a good first set, because the dark tone hides braid roots well.
Can I dye Rich Brown Dreads later?
Yes, but only darker. You can make the brown deeper or add a subtle burgundy or plum tint. Do not bleach natural dreads. The dread soaks up the bleach and keeps it inside, which damages the hair. Can I mix Rich Brown Dreads with another set?
Yes. The Rich Brown set stays as it is, though you can order another set alongside it. A full rich brown install could, for instance, get 10 or 15 lighter SE dreads in blonde, auburn or copper. That gives a natural highlight effect. You can also wear this set on its own.
DE or SE: which format of Rich Brown Dreads should I choose?
For a full install with more volume, go with DE, usually 40–50 dreads. SE gives less volume and suits a partial install of about 20–30 dreads. SE also suits accents and the hairline.
