Description

Medium Brown Dreads are natural DE or SE dreads, 25 to 60 cm long, made by hand from 100% Remy human hair in a warm, slightly coppery brown. In shade the colour reads as a grounded dark brown. In direct light it turns richer and shows copper. Instead of standing out against your hair, this shade melts into it.

A warm, natural medium brown

This set is made entirely from natural Remy human hair sourced in Russia (what is Remy hair?). In Remy hair, all strands run in one direction. This keeps the surface smooth and matte, and the hair drapes and moves like your own. Not sure which format fits your install? Our guide to SE vs DE formats sets the two side by side.

Each Medium Brown dread is shaped by hand, using nothing but a comb and a crochet hook. We use crochet only, with no wrapping and no filler, so the dreads come out dense. We only start a natural set once it has been ordered. A maker with more than ten years of experience gives each set its final check before it ships. So far, more than 5,000 sets have left our studio.

The texture is smooth, and the brown sits in deep, earthy territory. The tips stay loose and slightly wavy, so they end softly rather than bluntly. The set is decorated with green polymer clay beads shaped like raw malachite. Each bead is slightly different. You won’t receive the engraved silver cuff shown in the photos, as we only use it for display.

  • DE: each dread is folded in half over a thin braid made from your own hair. There is no loop, and one attachment gives two dread ends. Extension is the permanent format: the dreads are crocheted into your own dreads and stay in, with a correction every 3–4 months.
  • SE: every dread has a loop at its top end, which goes onto a single strand of your hair. That strand is then braided around the dread.

Lengths on offer are 25 cm (10″), 30 cm (12″), 35 cm (14″), 40 cm (16″), 45 cm (18″), 50 cm (20″), 55 cm (22″) and 60 cm (24″). Covering the whole head usually takes 40 to 50 DE dreads. Partial or accent installs work with 20–30. To plan your install, browse all colours and lengths.

  • Washing: no more often than weekly. Dilute one part shampoo in five parts water, apply it to the scalp alone and rinse well. Do not use conditioner. The dreads sit on thin braids of your own hair, and conditioner makes those braids come loose.
  • Tangles: never comb or brush the dreads. Work knotted tips apart by hand, preferably when they are damp. If a knot is badly tangled, you may carefully cut it off.
  • Between installs: remove a temporary install after 1.5–2 months of wear. Dry the dreads flat, store them without folding and put them in again.

New to installing? Section sizing, braiding and daily care are all covered in free step-by-step videos at the DaddyDread Academy. To see this medium brown moving on real hair, watch actual installs on DaddyDread YouTube.

Medium brown works well as a base for mixing. Mixing means adding another set to your order. Ten DE dreads in auburn or caramel, for instance, can frame your face. You could also add 10–20 SE of a lighter blonde through the mid-lengths.

Your screen and room lighting affect how the colour looks. Each batch of natural hair is slightly different, so two sets may vary a little in tone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Medium Brown Dreads shift colour over time?

Single-tone browns are forgiving, and small shifts blend into the overall warmth. Sunlight can make the copper hints a little warmer. A sulfate-free, colour-safe shampoo helps the brown stay deep.

Is the silver cuff in the Medium Brown Dreads photos included?

No. The engraved silver cuff is a photo prop. Your order contains the Medium Brown Dreads and green polymer clay beads, which may look a little different from those pictured. For a metal cuff, choose any cuff or bead with an 8–10 mm hole and slide it on.

Can I dye the Medium Brown Dreads darker later?

Yes, if you go darker, not lighter. Bleaching is not recommended, because the chemical stays inside the dread and damages it. For a custom set in a lighter or entirely new colour, write to daniladaddydread@gmail.com. Dyeing softens the dread, so tighten it afterwards with a crochet hook. See how to do it in the Academy.

Which hair colour suits the Medium Brown Dreads best?

Medium to dark brown, chestnut or auburn hair blends best. On lighter hair, the contrast is more visible. Have black hair? A custom set is possible, with roots dark like yours and medium brown along the rest. Email daniladaddydread@gmail.com.

Should I choose DE or SE for the Medium Brown Dreads?

DE gives fuller coverage over the whole head and typically takes 40 to 50 pieces. SE suits partial installs with less volume, usually 20–30 pieces, for example around the face.

When will my Medium Brown Dreads set be ready?

We rarely have a set in stock, because we make each one after it's ordered. To check, send an email to daniladaddydread@gmail.com. Delivery price and timing for your country are listed below the buy button.

Can I get the Medium Brown Dreads with other beads or a different brown?

Yes. We can replace the green clay beads with wooden, metal, glass or other stone beads. Another option is a warmer brown such as copper or caramel, or a deeper one such as chocolate or espresso. Email a picture of your hair to daniladaddydread@gmail.com.

So cool 🤩

Absolutely in love with my dread extensions — already ordered another set! Amazing craftsmanship!

I was trying to find moderately priced and good looking dreads. I was looking for hours and decided to buy these ones because I liked photos and seller seemed nice. I received mine in less than couple of weeks. I tried them right away. They look very good on me! I worn them twice and got tons of compliments! I am happy!

Just a really solid medium brown, no weird red or yellow tones that you sometimes get with the cheaper places. Bought 50 pieces for full coverage and they blended into my own hair almost seamlessly. Wife installed them on me over a weekend, took us about 5 hrs with breaks for tea. Few months in and they still look good after washing.
