Ginger copper, crafted one dread at a time

Our hair comes from Russia and is fully natural Remy human hair (what is Remy hair?). It is cuticle-aligned, with every strand running in one direction. That gives the surface a smooth, matte finish instead of a fuzzy texture. Unsure whether DE or SE is right for your install? Our guide to SE vs DE formats covers both options, so read it before you choose.

Every dread is crocheted by hand from start to finish. Nothing is pressed or ironed. Every natural set, Ginger Copper included, is made once you order it. The studio has made and shipped more than 5,000 sets across over 13 years. A maker with more than ten years of experience gives every set its final check before it ships.

The shade sits in warm ginger-copper territory, closer to natural copper than orange. The tips are left loose and slightly wavy, which adds soft movement at the ends. Included in the Ginger Copper set are black wooden beads, a silver pendant charm and olive green thread wraps placed here and there. Your beads may differ from the ones pictured, since the photos show samples only. The antler-skull pin was a photo prop and is not included in the set.

A DE dread has no loop and simply folds over a thin braid of your own hair. On an SE dread, the loop at the end goes onto a single strand of your hair. Next, you braid that same strand around the dread. A temporary braid-in install lasts 1.5–2 months, after which you take it out and put it back in. If you crochet them in permanently, the dreads are not removed, only corrected every 3–4 months. Extension is the permanent format: the dreads are crocheted into your own dreads and stay in, with a correction every 3–4 months.

Ginger Copper Dreads are available in 25 cm (10″), 30 cm (12″), 35 cm (14″), 40 cm (16″), 45 cm (18″), 50 cm (20″), 55 cm (22″) and 60 cm (24″). Most full-head installs take 40 to 50 DE dreads. A partial look works with 20–30. Sets start at 10 dreads, so it is easy to add a few to another colour. To put together the right mix, browse all colours and lengths.

Limit washing to once a week or less. Dilute one part shampoo in five parts water, work it into the scalp only, and rinse thoroughly. Do not use conditioner. The thin braids of your own hair that anchor the dreads come loose when conditioner is used. Keep combs and brushes away from the dreads entirely. If the tips tangle, separate them with your fingers. A badly tangled knot can be carefully cut off. To keep the warmth, use a red-toning shampoo and avoid deep-cleansing formulas that strip colour.

This shade pairs well with warm chocolate brown or deep copper sets. To add warmth to a darker base, mix 10 DE or 10–20 SE from this set into it. Since Ginger Copper Dreads are human hair, you can also dye single dreads to adjust the blend.

Worn down, the copper has a warm, sun-caught depth. Pulled into a half-up bun, the wavy ends frame your face. The black beads sit as dark accents against the copper, and the olive wraps add a quiet forest note. At festivals and outdoors, the colours hold their character from morning to evening.

After taking out a temporary install, dry the dreads lying flat and store them flat until you put them in again. A set of human hair dreads can go through many installs.

Studio lighting is the same for every product shoot. Your screen, room light and camera white balance all change how the copper looks. Natural human hair also varies a little between batches. That is expected, not a defect.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I keep Ginger Copper Dreads from fading in the sun?

UV slowly softens the warmth of copper. Use a red or warm-toning shampoo weekly. As with dyed copper hair, use a UV hair spray before spending long days outdoors. Avoid sulfate-heavy and clarifying shampoos.

Which natural hair colour suits Ginger Copper Dreads?
  • Warm brown, auburn or chestnut hair: the copper blends in naturally.
  • Blonde hair: copper reads as a bold accent. Install 10–15 dreads as highlights.
  • Black hair: request a custom fade, with dark roots matching your hair and copper through the rest of each dread. Email daniladaddydread@gmail.com.
Can I blend Ginger Copper Dreads with another set?

Yes. Buy Ginger Copper Dreads together with your main set, then work 10 DE or 10–20 SE into a chocolate brown or auburn base. Neither set is changed, and the mix is entirely up to you. Because each dread is real hair, you can also re-tone single dreads at home.

Which format fits Ginger Copper Dreads best?

For a full copper head of 40–50 dreads, DE works well and adds more volume. For a partial install of 20–30 dreads, such as warm highlights in a darker base, SE is the better pick. With a permanent install, the dreads are crocheted in and then corrected every 3–4 months.

Is a Ginger Copper Dreads set made to order?

Yes, natural sets are crocheted to order. A finished copper set is rarely on the shelf. Write to daniladaddydread@gmail.com if you would like to check. Shipping cost and time for your country appear under the buy button.

Can I order Ginger Copper Dreads in a custom shade or with other decorations?

Yes. The shade can be moved toward a deeper red copper, a softer auburn or a cooler bronze. The silver pendant, olive wraps and black wooden beads can be replaced too. Danila will match the colour to your natural hair from a photo you send. You get progress photos, so you see the set before it ships. Email daniladaddydread@gmail.com.

color is really nice, exactly the copper i wanted. took me a while to get used to the weight when wearing the full set but after few days it feels normal. shipping was a bit slow (about 5 weeks to munich because they make them to order) but the quality is good so its ok. am happy.

My husband loves how these came out. They feel amazing. Very soft. Color is fantastic. I have but only one slight disappointment — the packaging. When they were in the package, the pouch was bent. So the ends midway down are all stuck in this awful bend. We tried everything we could to get this fold to go away, but it just wouldn't. In the end, hot water did the trick — we just dipped the bent part in water and hung them to dry. Once they dried, the dreads were perfectly straight.
