Description
Classic Black is a set of natural dreads made by hand from 100% Remy human hair, in DE or SE format and 25–60 cm lengths. The colour is natural black with a soft brown hue. Every hair end is tucked into the dread with the crochet hook, which gives each tip a blunt look. There are no loose tips, no wraps and no colour transitions.

Smooth natural black with tucked-in tips
The shade is the same as the wavy-tipped Natural Black set, but the shape is different. The wavy version opens into loose hair at the ends. This one stays locked all the way down. The maker tucks the hair ends into each dread with the hook, so the tip has a rounded, finished edge. Every dread reads as one solid piece from top to tip.
The texture is smooth and even, with no deliberate bumps. The crochet work is tight along the full length. A slight natural fuzz on the surface keeps the dreads from looking plastic. Indoors the colour reads as near-black. In direct sunlight the warm brown undertone shows, so the shade doesn’t look flat. Compare SE and DE formats.
Silver beads and rings, no wraps
Decoration is minimal. Some dreads carry a few silver-coloured metal beads, and small metal rings sit at varying heights. There are no threads, charms or wraps. Bead placement varies between sets, so your beads may look different from the photos. Other decorations are possible as a custom order.
Classic Black: hair and handwork
Classic Black is made from 100% natural Remy human hair from Russia (what is Remy hair?). Our makers crochet each set by hand with a crochet hook and a comb. No glue, wraps or machines are used. Blunt tips need extra hook work: the maker tucks the hair ends inward to finish the shape.
We check the length of every dread, and its thickness has to be between 0.8 and 1 cm. A maker with more than ten years of experience does the final check on every set. On this set that includes the tips. Any dread with an uneven or soft tip is reworked before packing. The DaddyDread studio has made and shipped more than 5,000 sets in over 13 years.
Classic Black: formats and set sizes
- DE: each double-ended dread has no loop and folds over a thin braid of your own hair. Both hanging ends have tucked-in blunt tips. Extension is the permanent format: the dreads are crocheted into your own dreads and stay in, with a correction every 3–4 months.
- SE: each single-ended dread has a loop that goes onto a strand of your hair. That strand is then braided around the dread.
- Permanent install: once crocheted in place, the dreads are not taken out. A natural set needs correcting every 3–4 months.

Classic Black: care
Don’t wash more often than once a week. Dilute one part shampoo with five parts water and apply it only to your scalp. Leave out conditioner: the dreads are attached to thin braids of your own hair, and conditioner makes those braids loosen. Never comb or brush the dreads. If they tangle, separate them with your fingers. A badly tangled knot can be carefully cut off.
A temporary braid-in install stays in for 1.5–2 months. Then take the dreads out carefully, air-dry them flat and store them uncompressed, ready to put in again. Our Step-by-step care and installation guides cover both formats.
Classic Black goes well with many natural hair colours. To mix in contrast, buy another set as well. For example, combine 10 Classic Black dreads with 10 or 20 SE dreads in brown or blonde. We shot the photos in diffused daylight. Slight batch variation is normal with human hair but hard to see on a dark set.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will Classic Black fade or lose its depth over time?
Natural black doesn't shift noticeably. After a long time in the sun, the brown undertone can turn very slightly warmer, but this barely shows on a dark base. No toning shampoo is needed.
Do the blunt tips on Classic Black need special care?
No. With no loose ends, there is less to frizz. Wash the scalp weekly with diluted shampoo. The hair ends are tucked in with the hook and stay in place through normal wear.
Is Classic Black harder to install than a wavy-tip set?
No. The braiding technique is the same; only the tip differs. Installation takes as long as a wavy-tip set with the same number of dreads. After install, blunt tips give a cleaner, more defined line.
Can I add my own beads to Classic Black?
Yes. The smooth surface and closed tips make it easy to slide beads on and off. Silver, wood, glass or ceramic beads all work. Check that the hole fits the 0.8–1 cm thickness of the dreads.
How many Classic Black dreads should I order, and in DE or SE?
DE suits a full head, usually 40–50 dreads, for more volume. SE works better for a partial install of 20–30 dreads, for example at the back of the head or blended with your own hair.

ok so I tried to section my own hair which was a mistake lol but the dreads themselves are perfect. classic black, exactly like the photos. the blunt ends are what sold me, gives that older locs vibe instead of the pointy synthetic look. took me almost 4 hrs in the end (had to redo half the back lol)
