Colour and hair

The base material is natural Remy human hair from Russia (what is Remy hair?). The chocolate base is warm and rich, and the blonde tips have a soft, lived-in warmth. Not sure which attachment style to pick? You’ll find the answer in our guide to how single and double ended dreads differ.

The loose ends are left partly undreaded and wavy. You get dreaded texture at the root and free blonde hair at the end. This contrast helps the ombre look natural rather than styled. Crocheted dreads keep their shape and density through the whole colour change.

Brown to Blonde Ombre: how the set is made

Only a crochet hook and a comb are used to form every Brown to Blonde Ombre dread by hand, from the root to the tip. Nothing is wrapped, pressed or made by machine. Every natural set is produced once you place your order. Before any set leaves the studio, it gets a final inspection from a maker who has more than ten years of experience. The studio has been making and shipping sets for 13+ years, with over 5,000 sent so far.

Brown to Blonde Ombre: formats, lengths and set sizes

You can order this set in either DE or SE format. A DE dread has no loop; it simply folds over a thin braid made from your own hair. SE dreads come with a loop that goes onto a strand of hair, which is then braided around the dread. To compare the colours and lengths on offer, explore the complete range. Extension is the permanent format: the dreads are crocheted into your own dreads and stay in, with a correction every 3–4 months.

You can choose from eight lengths, starting at 25 cm (10″) and going up to 60 cm (24″). Shorter sets sit just below the jaw, and longer ones reach down the back. Sets range in size from 10 dreads up to 55. For a full head, 40–50 DE is typical; for accents, 15–25 is usually enough.

Brown to Blonde Ombre: wear and care

A temporary braid-in install lasts 1.5–2 months; after that you take the dreads out and put them back in. Your own hair stays intact during removal. If you choose a permanent crochet install, the dreads are never taken out and only need correcting every 3–4 months. After each cycle, let the dreads dry flat and store them without compression.

  • Washing: wash weekly at most. Dilute the shampoo at one part to five parts water, then massage it into your scalp and rinse it all out. Applying a purple shampoo to the tips helps stop them turning yellow.
  • Conditioner: do not use it. It makes the thin braids of your own hair, which anchor the dreads, come loose.
  • Tangles: never use a comb or a brush on these dreads. Work tangled tips apart by hand, using only your fingers. If a knot is very badly tangled, you can carefully cut it off.
  • Heat and dye: with a heat protectant, you can curl or straighten the wavy tips. The set can be dyed darker; see the FAQ below.

Styling and mixing

The set blends with warm brown, caramel or honey blonde hair. To add depth, you could also buy another set, such as 10–15 SE dreads in lighter wheat blonde or deeper chestnut. Half-up styles suit this ombre: tie the darker roots up and let the blonde ends fall. A low messy bun shows the grey beads near the root.

Our photos are taken in natural daylight, never in direct sunshine. Screen settings can make the blonde look warmer or cooler. Your beads could differ from those in the photos, and natural hair can change slightly between batches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the honey blonde tips of Brown to Blonde Ombre turn yellow?

The chocolate brown roots hold colour very well. Because the honey blonde ends are lightened real hair, sun and frequent washing may make them slightly warmer. Every 2 weeks, wash the tips with a purple shampoo so the blonde stays cool.

Can I blend Brown to Blonde Ombre with a darker set for highlights?

Yes. Buy this set as well as a dark espresso or jet-black set, and thread 10–15 SE pieces through the dark base. They read like sun-faded natural hair, and the gradient does the blending for you.

Can I dye Brown to Blonde Ombre to adjust the gradient?

Yes, into any deeper shade. Semi-permanent or permanent dye can darken the roots or add warmth to the tips. Never use bleach, because the hair absorbs it, it cannot be fully rinsed out, and it goes on causing damage. For lighter or very different colours, order a custom set instead by emailing daniladaddydread@gmail.com. Dyeing makes hair softer, so expect to tidy it with a crochet hook; see our Academy guides.

Which natural hair colour suits Brown to Blonde Ombre?

The chocolate roots vanish into medium to dark brown, auburn or caramel hair, so these shades blend best. On lighter blonde hair the gradient looks inverted. If your hair is black, we can create a custom fade with roots matched to your own and honey blonde tips. Email daniladaddydread@gmail.com.

DE or SE: which suits Brown to Blonde Ombre?

DE suits a full install of 40–50 pieces, as it adds more volume and covers the entire gradient. SE is a good choice for a partial install of 20–30 pieces, for example highlights through a darker base.

How soon will my Brown to Blonde Ombre set ship?

We make each Brown to Blonde Ombre set to order, so a finished one is seldom waiting in stock. To check, email daniladaddydread@gmail.com. Delivery cost and time for your country are shown under the buy button.

Can I get Brown to Blonde Ombre with other beads or a custom shade?

We can swap the grey polymer clay beads for wooden, glass or metal ones. We can also shift the gradient warmer (more honey) or cooler (more ash). Send us a photo of your hair for colour matching; we'll share progress photos before the set ships. Email daniladaddydread@gmail.com.
