Description

Handmade from low-temperature kanekalon, Ash Textured Dreads are 50 cm textured DE synthetic dreads in cool ash-grey, accented with blue and gold thread. The shade is silvery platinum with a hint of pale smoke. Think of natural dreads aged by weather and sun, but turning grey instead of brown.

The surface shows visible fiber loops and irregular bumpy edges. This comes from handmade crochet work, not machine work. The bumps give a lived-in look that reads like months of wear from the first day.

The Ash palette, build and decorations

The shade sits in cool ash-grey. It looks silvery in daylight, slightly platinum indoors and closer to pale smoke in evening light. Thin blue and gold thread accents run through the dread body. Black decorative beads sit at irregular intervals and stand out against the pale ash. Your Ash set may come with beads that look different from those pictured.

Braided accent pieces alternate with the crocheted dreads and add a bohemian touch. The ends are thick and keep their shape through a full install.

The fiber is low-temperature kanekalon. Boiling water fixes the bumpy, ridged relief, and the raw finish stays matte across installs. The Ash shade goes into the fiber during its production. Because of this, every batch matches, and the shade won’t fade or oxidise.

How Ash Textured Dreads are made

A comb and a crochet hook are the only tools used to make every Ash dread by hand. First we backcomb the fiber and crochet it with a 0.4 mm hook, or 0.6 mm for thicker dreads; boiling water then fixes the relief. Making one textured set requires between one and three days. Before it ships, we inspect each set’s beads, thread wraps and 0.8–1 cm thickness.

Format and set sizes

This set comes in double-ended format only, 50 cm long. A DE dread has no loop. Instead, you fold it over a thin braid of your own hair, so a single attachment gives you two dread ends. One thin three-strand braid holds 10 DE.

Ash sets come in sizes of 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 dreads. Most full-head installs need between 40 and 50 DE dreads. For a partial look or accents in your own hair, 20–30 is often enough. Single-ended is not offered in this colour.

Wearing and caring for Ash Textured Dreads

You can install one Ash set 2–3 times, wearing it for 1.5–2 months each time. You can reinstall the set right away, with no break needed. Removal does not harm your hair: unbraid, slide the dreads out, and your own hair is as before.

  • Wash: mix one part shampoo with five parts water, work it into your scalp only, then rinse well and let everything air-dry.
  • No conditioner: it loosens the thin braids of your own hair that hold the Ash dreads in place.
  • Tangles: never comb or brush. Work tangles apart by hand, and if a knot is badly tangled, you may cut it off with care.
  • Heat: the low-temperature kanekalon in these dreads cannot handle heat. Temperatures over 60–70 °C will damage the fiber, so keep away from flat irons, hot blow dryers and saunas.
  • Storage: take the dreads out gently, wind them into a loose coil, and store them somewhere dry and out of the sun.

Styling Ash

The cool tone works with silver jewellery, dark clothing and minimal outfits. It also contrasts well with warm earth tones. For a two-tone look, add another set, such as 10 or 20 darker dreads alongside 10 from Ash. Adding a curly set in ash or silver gives a mixed texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a set of Ash Textured Dreads last?

Each Ash set can be installed 2–3 times, and every install holds up for 1.5–2 months of continuous wear. Boiling water fixes the bumpy relief, so washing and repeated installs do not flatten it.

Will the texture of Ash Textured Dreads loosen over time?

The crochet work locks the structure, and boiling water fixes the relief. The thick ends hold their shape through washing, sleep and daily movement. If tangles form, pull them apart by hand and keep combs away.

How is Ash Textured Dreads different from a smooth set?

Ash keeps the bumps and ridges of backcombed, crocheted fiber fixed with boiling water. Smooth dreads have a polished surface and are treated with steam instead.

How many Ash Textured Dreads do I need?

For a full, dense head, 40–50 DE. For a partial look or accents in your own hair, 20–30 is usually enough. If you are unsure, start smaller and add a 10-dread set at your next install.

Can I mix Ash Textured Dreads with other colours or textures?

Yes. Buy a second set alongside this one, for example 10 Ash dreads plus 10 or 20 from a brown, black or curly set. You don't pick any options at checkout, because the Ash set never changes.

Will the colour of Ash Textured Dreads fade or change?

No. The Ash shade is part of the fiber from the start, not added later. Because of this, each batch looks the same, with no fading or oxidising.
