The decorations are earthy, with two metals. Brown thread wraps run in tight X-shaped cross-stitches, on no more than one dread in three. Yellow thread wraps are thinner spirals, often next to the brown ones. A few gold and silver cylinder beads are spread across the set, and yours may differ slightly from the photos. Wheatfield is made from premium low-temperature kanekalon that is dyed when the fiber is produced. After crocheting, every dread is steamed by hand, which fixes the material and keeps the surface smooth through months of wear. The honey-blonde gradient is part of the fiber, not a coating, so re-orders of these crochet dreadlock extensions match the first set. Summer, a warm install and humid air are fine, but this fiber is not heat-resistant: keep it below 60–70 °C.

We crochet every dread by hand and then steam it, one at a time. The smooth standard, built by hand. Three checks follow: thickness (0.8–1 cm along the whole dread), even length and colour. A maker who has been with us for 13 years takes the final look.

There are two formats. DE smooth dreads fold over a braid of your own hair, have no loop, and both ends hang free, which suits a full head. SE smooth dreads have a small loop at the top that goes onto a strand of your hair; the strand is then braided around the dread. SE is handy for blending a few honey-blonde dreads into darker hair. A full head dread set takes 40–50 DE or 80–100 SE; a partial install needs 20–30 DE.

Caring for Wheatfield: weekly wash and gentle detangling

The routine is short. Wash once a week with diluted shampoo (1:5, scalp only) and let the set dry completely in the air. Keep it away from hot hair dryers and saunas, since strong heat ruins the smooth surface for good.

Do not comb or brush the smooth dreads. Loosen tangled tips with your fingers, and if a knot is really stuck, snip it off carefully. Leave out conditioner: it softens the braids of your own hair that hold the dreads. At night, gather everything into a loose braid or a sleep bonnet so the dreads do not roll against each other. If you prefer a checklist, here is the same routine in short:

1. Mix shampoo with water 1:5, never use it neat
2. Apply it to the scalp only, not along the dreads
3. Rinse well with cool or lukewarm water
4. Dry in the air only, with no hot hair dryer and no sauna
5. Pull tip tangles apart with your fingers, never with a comb
6. Gather the dreads into a loose plait or a bonnet at night

A Wheatfield set stays in for six to eight weeks per install, then comes out clean and can go straight back in. These are reusable dreads. The steamed surface does not wear off, so the same crochet dreadlock extensions go back in a second and a third time before you need a fresh set.
