Viking is a set of crochet dreadlock extensions with a brown-grey crown that fades into pure platinum ash blonde and keeps that colour to the tips. The decorations are silver cylinder beads with runic patterns, X-shaped thread wraps in black, brown and grey, and flat 3-strand braids. Description
Viking is a 50 cm DE smooth synthetic dread extensions set with a brown-grey crown that shades into pure ash blonde and keeps that colour to the tips. These are steam-set dreads: each one is made by hand and then treated with steam to fix the fiber. We make every Viking set in our studio from the same low-temperature kanekalon as the rest of our smooth line.
The set suits a Nordic look: silver beads, brown-grey roots that fade into ash blonde, and runic charms in the braids near the crown. These crochet dreadlock extensions are made by hand with a crochet hook and a comb. At the top you get brown grey smooth dreads, and lower down the colour turns platinum ash and stays that way to the tips. Black, brown and grey thread wraps cross over each other next to the silver beads. Flat 3-strand braids break up the smooth surface.

Viking ash blonde smooth dreads with brown grey ombre crown, 50 cm DE
Viking belongs to our smooth crochet dreads. After steaming, the surface is flat from root to tip, with no curls or frizz. The colour has two zones. A brown-grey crown covers the first 10–12 cm, then the dread turns into pure ash blonde smooth dreads that keep the same shade to the tips. Both colours are built into the kanekalon when the fiber is made, not painted over a lighter base. Washing does not change the gradient.
The ash blonde is cool, with no honey or warm beige in it. The brown-grey at the crown is cool too, closer to mushroom or wolf-grey than to chestnut. The whole palette stays cool, which works for a Nordic outfit, an ice-queen costume or a Viking one.

The Viking decorations are metal and thread:
- Silver cylinder beads with runic patterns, 3–4 per set, on a few dreads near the crown. The beads in your set may differ from the ones in the photos
- Black thread X-wraps on 6–8 dreads, cross stitches in the middle of the dread like lacing
- Brown thread X-wraps on 2–3 dreads, a slightly warmer accent next to the brown-grey crown
- Grey thread X-wraps on 3–4 dreads, close to the ash colour
- Flat 3-strand braids, 2–3 per set, braided by hand from the same fiber in ash blonde
- Loose ash-blonde tips at the end of every dread
We make the set from premium low-temperature kanekalon. The fiber is dyed before we work with it, and the finished dreads are treated with steam to fix the material. These smooth synthetic dreads cope well with summer weather, a warm install and humidity. Low-temperature kanekalon is not heat-resistant, though: heat above 60–70 °C damages the fiber.
Every dread is made by hand, one at a time. We work with a comb and a 0.4 mm crochet hook. Then the dreads are treated with steam to fix the material, so they keep their shape for a long time.
In more than 13 years of work we have learned that the brown-grey crown comes out most even when we steam each dread separately and take our time.
Viking comes only as DE smooth dreads in 50 cm. A double-ended dread is folded over a thin braid of your own hair, and both ash-blonde ends hang free.
A full head dread set takes 40–50 DE dreads. For a partial install (stripes at the crown or a few dreads around the face), 10–20 are enough. Care tips for Viking ash blonde smooth dreads
- Wash at most once a week: dilute shampoo 1:5 with water, apply it to the scalp only and let the dreads air-dry
- Do not comb or brush the dreads; separate tangled tips with your fingers
- Stay away from saunas and hot hair dryers. Low-temperature kanekalon is not heat-resistant, and heat above 60–70 °C ruins the smooth surface for good
- Skip conditioner. The dreads are attached to thin braids of your own hair, and conditioner makes those braids slip and come loose sooner
- At night, gather the dreads in a loose braid or wear a sleep bonnet so they do not tangle

Mixing Viking with kanekalon smooth dreads and other DE sets
Viking mixes well with other DaddyDread synthetic dreadlock extensions. Solid platinum sets keep the whole head icy. Reusable dreads: from one install to the next
Viking is a reusable dreads set. When it is time to take it out, undo the small braids of your own hair. Keep the set in a dry place, ideally in a fabric pouch, and do not squash it into a tight bag. Then braid your hair again and put the dreads back in. One install lasts about six to eight weeks.
The colour stays the same over two or three installs: the brown-grey crown does not oxidise and the ash blonde does not fade. When the dreads are worn out, you can move the silver beads to new ones. A note on colour: synthetic fiber looks cooler or warmer depending on the light. Under cool LED light the brown-grey crown looks more steely, and under a warm lamp the ash blonde picks up a faint cream tint. Both are within our colour standard.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the Viking set last?
One install of these smooth synthetic dreads lasts about six to eight weeks of continuous wear. The dreads are treated with steam, so the surface stays smooth and needs nothing between installs.
With good care, a Viking set lasts two or three installs before wear shows on the surface. The tips wear out sooner than the crown because the lower part of the dread rubs more during sleep.
Will the brown-grey colour bleed into the ash blonde?
No. Both colours are built into the kanekalon when the fiber is made, not painted on top, so washing will not carry brown-grey pigment into the light part. Diluted shampoo is all the set needs. Skip conditioner: it loosens the braids of your own hair that hold the dreads.
Can I mix Viking with textured or curly dreads?
Yes. Take this set and add 10 or 20 dreads from one of our textured or curly sets. Viking itself stays the same: you simply install two sets together. Textured dreads are set with boiling water and keep a bumpy surface, so they stand out next to the flat finish of Viking, one of our smooth crochet dreads.
Can I remove or replace the silver beads?
Yes. The beads sit on the dread on a loop and are not glued or sewn. You can slide a bead off, swap it or move it to another dread without damaging anything.
Is the Viking set heavy?
A full install of 50 DE dreads weighs about 350–450 grams, and the weight is spread evenly across all the attachment points. People with fine hair usually wear the full set comfortably if it sits on many small braids rather than a few large ones.
Do the loose tips tangle more than the rest of the dread?
The loose tips can tangle if you sleep without a bonnet. Gather them into a loose braid or wear a silk bonnet at night, and the tangling stops. In the morning, separate knots at the tips with your fingers and never comb the dreads.

viking aesthetic on point. the multi tone ombre has a lot of depth in person, photos dont quite capture it. took ages to ship to australia (5 weeks) but customs was painless and they arrived in perfect condition. just be patient if youre down under.
the multi tone ombre on this is incredible, has so much depth that photos really cant capture properly. paired with my full beard people stop me on the streets in oslo to ask. shipping was reasonable for nordic standards (about 3 weeks) and customs no issues. friend installed them for me, took an evening with akevitt breaks haha.
Absolutely beautiful I highly recommend buying from DaddyDread. Their texture is a little weird at first but the soften up after a few days. These did come with the decorations as well!
the colors are stunning in person, the ombre transitions are way smoother than i thought from the website pics. only reason im at 4 stars instead of 5 is the ash blonde at the tips reads slightly cooler than what i expected, more silvery. still beautiful, just be aware if you want a warmer blend. quality otherwise is solid.
