Description

Brown Emerald is a mixed set of 50 cm double-ended dreads, made by hand: textured dreads in cocoa, copper-ginger and emerald, plus soft curls in two shades of brown and one braid in every ten. The emerald is not a gradient. It sits as bright green flecks at random spots along the warm cocoa base, so in daylight the green flashes, and in shade the set looks almost natural brunette.

That shift is the idea behind these curly dreadlock extensions: a set that can be bold or quiet, depending on the light. Every textured dread carries three colours, and every curl stays a calm brown.

Colours and Composition

The dreads are 0.8–1 cm thick and 50 cm long. In the textured part, each dread has three tones: warm cocoa as the base, copper-ginger in between and bright emerald as the accent. Every textured dread has the same mix of these three colours.

The curls stay brown: a rich chocolate base with lighter brown curls in between. They keep the set grounded, so the emerald stands out instead of getting lost.

The ratio is always 6:3:1: six textured dreads, three curls and one decorated braid for every ten DE. Both parts share the same warm brown, so the colours hold together even though the textures differ.

The set uses two fibers. The textured dreads are low-temperature kanekalon, which takes the boiling-water treatment well. The curls are henlon, a heat-resistant fiber that keeps its curl without any styling. Because of the kanekalon part, keep the whole set away from heat above 60–70 °C.

We make every dread by hand with a comb and a crochet hook, with no wrapping and no machines. The textured dreads are backcombed, crocheted and then treated with boiling water, which fixes their bumpy surface for good. DaddyDread has made more than 5,000 sets in 13 years, and the mixed sets get the same care as all the others.

Before shipping, we check every dread for thickness (0.8–1 cm along the whole length) and length (50 cm), look at the curls and the textured surface, and a maker with more than ten years of experience gives the set a final review.

Decorations, Format, and Styling

The decorations match the palette. Brown and ginger thread wraps cross the dreads in an X pattern. White wooden beads sit next to small gold metal beads, and silver and gold pendants hang on small rings on some dreads. The beads and pendants in your set may differ slightly from the photos.

The set comes as double ended dreads, 50 cm long. Each DE dread folds over a thin braid of your own hair and shows two ends. You can choose 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 dreads, always in the same 6:3:1 mix of textured dreads, curls and braids.

The brown-emerald palette goes with more than you might think. Black leather and dark denim calm the emerald, warm brown knits echo the cocoa, and forest-green or olive clothes make the green stand out more. The matte surface and the random emerald flecks make these look like natural dreads rather than polished ones. For a full head, take all 50.

For accents in darker hair, 20 to 30 dreads are usually enough.

Caring for Brown Emerald

For the first two weeks, separate the dreads every day with damp hands, so the curls settle into their natural shape. After that the routine is short: wash once a week with shampoo diluted 1:5, on the scalp only, and let everything air-dry.

Keep hot hair dryers and saunas away, since the kanekalon part warps above 60–70 °C. Never comb or brush the curls; separate them gently with damp hands. If a knot gets badly tangled, you can carefully cut it off. Skip conditioner, because it loosens the braids of your own hair that hold the dreads.

At night, gather the dreads in a loose braid or a sleep bonnet. Our care guides cover every step.

One install lasts 1.5–2 months, and the dreads come out without harming your own hair. They are reusable: let them dry, store them flat in a breathable bag in a dry place, and the curls keep their shape for the next install.

For festivals and multi-day wear, this set gives you both the bumpy texture and the bounce of curls in one warm palette.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Brown Emerald set last?

One install lasts 1.5–2 months. The curls keep their shape without any re-curling, and the textured surface does not wash out. With good care, most people install the same set two or three times.

Which parts are kanekalon and which are henlon?

The six textured dreads in every ten are low-temperature kanekalon. The three curls are henlon, which keeps its curl from install to install. We make all of it by hand with a crochet hook and a comb.

Will the emerald fade over time?

No. The emerald is part of the fiber, put in when the fiber is made. A dye on the surface would fade, but this colour does not, so the green flecks look the same after many installs.

Can I change the 6:3:1 ratio?

The set itself always comes as 6:3:1. If you want more curls or more textured dreads, order a second set as well, for example 10 or 20 curly or textured dreads in a matching brown, and install both together.
