Description

Brown Sandy combines three textures in one handmade set of 50 cm DE dreads: in every ten there are 3 textured dreads, 2 smooth dreads, 4 soft curls and 1 braid. The whole set stays in one warm palette, a brown base with sandy-gold strands and no silver at all. Think of late afternoon in the woods, with sun on bark and dry grass.

Two fibers share the work. The curls are henlon, which keeps its curl without any styling. The textured and smooth dreads are kanekalon dreads, the same low-temperature fiber as in our other synthetic sets.

Brown Sandy: key facts

Colour Brown base with sandy-gold strands, warm tones only, no silver
Composition Every 10 DE: 3 textured dreads, 2 smooth dreads, 4 soft curls and 1 braid
Fiber Curls: henlon; textured and smooth dreads: low-temperature kanekalon. Keep the set below 60–70 °C
Technique Textured dreads: backcombed, crocheted and set with boiling water; smooth dreads: crocheted and steamed

Set sizes 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 dreads
Thickness 0.8–1 cm along the whole dread
Wear 1.5–2 months per install, 2–3 installs per set

The curls are soft, loose curls rather than tight spirals. They keep their shape from the first day to the last without any heat or products, unlike heat-styled real hair that flattens in rain or humidity.

What makes this set different is the mix of three textures. The textured dreads have a bumpy, worn-in surface, like dreads that have been worn for a long time. The smooth dreads are flat and even, like dreads that have settled.

The soft curls add movement and bounce, and the braid gives a different line between them. All of it shares the same brown-and-sandy palette, so the set looks like one head of hair: matte next to smooth, bumpy next to curly.

A full mixed look takes 40 to 50 DE dreads, which is also the largest set here. A partial install of 20 to 30 DE is enough to add warm boho streaks to darker hair. You can choose 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 DE; the mix inside the set always stays the same.

Every piece starts as loose fiber and is shaped by hand with a comb and a crochet hook; nothing is wrapped and nothing is machine-made. Each kind of dread is made separately and then put together into one set.

Every curl, checked by hand, along with every other dread in the set.

The textured dreads are treated with boiling water after crocheting, which fixes their bumpy surface for good. The smooth dreads are treated with steam, which fixes the material and keeps them flat.

That way each kind of dread keeps its own texture. Every mixed set goes through the same quality checks as our other synthetic sets.

Three Textures in One Warm Palette

The braid finishes the mix with a three-strand pattern and a thin warm-coloured thread where it is wrapped.

The set comes as double ended dreads, 50 cm (about 20 inches) long and 0.8 to 1 cm thick along the whole length. These look like natural dreads in warm tones, with no glossy synthetic shine. The matte surface and the mix of textures look closer to long-worn natural dreads than to factory extensions.

The decorations stay warm too. White, ginger and brown threads are wrapped crosswise on some dreads, a few gold-tone beads are mixed with white wooden ones, and gold-tone pendants, such as a small crescent, hang on some dreads. There is no silver in this set. Expect small differences between the beads in your set and those in the photos.

Caring for Brown Sandy

Wash once a week at most: shampoo diluted 1:5 with water, on the scalp only, then let everything air-dry. In the first fortnight, run damp fingers through the set once a day to help the curls find their shape.

Combs and brushes stay away from this set: loosen tangles with your fingers, whatever the texture. A knot that will not come apart can be snipped off with care. Conditioner is not needed, and it would make your own braids under the dreads slippery, so they start to come undone.

Keep the set away from strong heat: no saunas, hot hair dryers or flat irons. The kanekalon dreads warp above 60–70 °C, even though the henlon curls can take more. At night, gather everything in a loose low plait or a satin bonnet. Our care and installation guides cover each texture.

One install lasts 1.5–2 months, then the braids are redone. The dreads are attached to braids of your own hair and come out without harming it. These are reusable dreads: store them loose in a breathable bag in a dry place, away from the sun, and every texture keeps its shape. That is what makes this set a real protective style: the same set, several installs, no damage underneath.

The brown-and-sandy palette fits boho, festival and autumn looks equally well. It goes with denim, leather, linen and other warm, natural fabrics.

For a full head dread set, take 50 dreads. For accents in darker hair, 15 to 25 dreads are enough.

The DaddyDread studio has made more than 5,000 sets in 13 years, all by hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Brown Sandy set last?

Plan on 1.5–2 months per install. No re-curling, heat or styling products are needed for the curls. With regular care (weekly diluted shampoo, air-drying, a braid or bonnet at night) the set stays in good shape for a long time.

Most customers install the same set two or three times before getting a new one.

What exactly is in one pack of 10 DE?

Three textured dreads, two smooth dreads, four soft curls and one braid. Bigger sets keep the same mix: a set of 20 DE has twice as many of each.

All of them share the same brown-and-sandy colours, so they blend into one look.

Are the curls tight spirals?

No. These are soft, loose curls with gentle movement, not tight corkscrew spirals. They sit between the textured and smooth dreads and keep the set relaxed and boho.

Can I change the mix, for example more curls?

The mix inside the set is fixed. To get a curlier or more textured head, add another set to your order, say 10 or 20 curly dreads in a similar brown, and braid both in together.

Will the colours fade over time?

The brown base and the sandy strands are part of the fiber itself and do not fade with washing. If a thread wrap gets loose after many wears, you can simply re-wrap it with new thread in a warm colour.

Why are there two different fibers in Brown Sandy?

Each fiber does what it is best at. Henlon holds a curl through every wash, so the four curls in every ten are made from it; it also copes with more heat. Low-temperature kanekalon is ideal for the textured and smooth dreads, because boiling water and steam fix it well, but it does not tolerate heat above 60–70 °C.
