Description
This set of synthetic DE dreads, called Black Grey Mix, measures 50 cm, or roughly 20 inches. Black textured dreads in low-temperature kanekalon sit alongside grey-to-white ombre curls in henlon, all handmade. Every ten dreads include six black textured dreads, three grey-to-white ombre curls and one braid with silver beads. Black dreads, grey and white curls, silver decoration: the set stays fully monochrome.
The black textured dreads stay solid black. On the curls, the ombre runs from grey to white and is lightest at the tips. The matte black texture sets off the silver beads and the white thread wraps.
The set mixes two fibers. In the Black Grey Mix, the textured dreads are crafted from kanekalon, a low-temperature fiber. Henlon, a heat-resistant fiber, forms every curl. The full set should still stay under 60–70 °C.
A comb and a crochet hook are the only tools our hands need to make every dread. For texture, the fiber is first backcombed and then crocheted with a 0.4 mm hook, or a 0.6 mm hook when the dread is thicker. Boiling water comes next and locks the relief in place. Making a textured set takes between one and three days. Nothing is pressed or ironed.
Black Grey Mix is available only as DE dreads, each 50 cm long in total. Each DE dread is folded over a thin braid of your own hair and has no loop at all. This gives two visible strands per attachment. The thickness holds at 0.8–1 cm along the full length of every dread. A full head uses all 50 pieces. For accents through darker natural hair, 20 to 30 DE are enough.
The curl pattern sits between a soft wave and a medium spiral. It looks bohemian without looking like a costume. The curls move when you move and need no product to stay defined.
The decoration is kept simple. White cotton cord is wrapped in a cross-stitch pattern at selected root zones. The beads are silver cubes and silver rounds, never brass or gold. Small silver geometric pendants hang from jump rings. The beads you receive may be different from those shown in the photos. Everything stays within black, grey, silver and white.

Caring for the Black Grey Mix
- Washing: once a week, apply diluted shampoo to your scalp and nowhere else. Let the dreads air-dry, since hot air from a blow dryer must not be used.
- Detangling: never use a brush or comb on any part of the Black Grey Mix, curls included. Separate tangles with your fingers. If a knot is badly tangled, you may carefully cut it off.
- Heat: avoid saunas, hot tools and strong direct heat. Don’t let any part of the set go above 60–70 °C.
- Conditioner: do not use it. The dreads sit on thin braids of your own hair, and conditioner makes those braids come loose.
- Storage: store the set somewhere dry. You can reinstall it straight away without a break.
You can wear one Black Grey Mix set for 2–3 installs, re-braiding every 1.5–2 months. Fading is not a concern, because the colour is built into the fiber when it is made.
The black and grey palette suits gothic, boho and festival styles. It works with black leather, silver jewellery, denim or plain monochrome outfits.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many installs does one Black Grey Mix set give?
One set covers 2–3 installs, with each one worn for roughly 1.5 to 2 months. Between wears, keep the Black Grey Mix somewhere dry. The set can go straight back in without any break.
Which fibers are used in the Black Grey Mix?
Kanekalon, a low-temperature fiber, is what the black textured dreads are made of. Henlon, which resists heat, is used for the grey-to-white curls. Because the set mixes both, keep all of it below 60–70 °C.
Can I get only the grey curls from the Black Grey Mix?
No. Black Grey Mix never changes its make-up, and checkout has no option for picking a texture ratio. To change the mix, buy another set as well. For example, combine 10 Black Grey Mix dreads with 10 or 20 from another set.
Will the grey-to-white ombre on the Black Grey Mix fade?
No. The fiber gets its colour during manufacture, so it neither fades nor oxidises. The shade stays consistent from one batch to the next.
How do the white cross-stitch wraps on the Black Grey Mix hold up to washing?
The cotton cord is wrapped tightly and secured with hidden knots, so regular washes leave it in place. If a wrap loosens, you can replace it with fresh white cotton cord.
