Mermaid Ash Emerald Textured Dread Extensions

Handmade from low-temperature kanekalon, Mermaid pairs platinum ash with vivid emerald-teal in textured synthetic DE (double-ended) dreads, 50 cm long. The dreads are ridged from root to tip and end in raw, straight, free-falling tips. Emerald and silver-ash strands twist together like seaweed at low tide, and silver hardware catches the light. The organic look is a visual effect; the fiber is fully synthetic.

This set was built around mermaid, sea-witch and nordic-fantasy looks. The palette reads as ocean and shore: quiet platinum with bursts of teal lagoon. Each 10 DE contain 5 strands in pure platinum ash blonde and 2 in vivid emerald-teal. Another 2 are twisted strands, where ash and emerald fibers are crocheted together. The last one is a flat three-strand braid in either ash or emerald. The ash reads as cool silver-platinum with no warm undertones. The emerald sits between Tiffany blue and mermaid green, fully saturated.

Decorations stay simple and silver. Small silver metal beads sit on selected dreads: slim cylinders with no engraving, held in place by thread wraps. Silver dread rings hold the wraps at random points down the strand. Light blue thin thread runs in a tight X-pattern around several emerald and ash strands. White thin thread sits mid-strand on others as a colder accent. The flat braids carry no decorations and sit as smooth elements between the ridged dreads.

Note: you won’t get the large Celtic-knot brooch seen in some photos; we only used it as a prop during the shoot.

The only option for Mermaid is 50 cm double-ended dreads. There is no loop on these DE dreads; instead, each one is folded over a thin braid made from your own hair. Both ends fall freely, so the raw straight tips show from any angle. A full head usually needs 40–50 DE; a partial install for accent stripes or front-only styling needs fewer. The set is made from low-temperature kanekalon. Keep it away from heat, since temperatures above 60–70 °C will damage this fiber. We make every Mermaid dread by hand, using only a crochet hook and a comb. First we backcomb the fiber and crochet it with a 0.4 mm hook, or 0.6 mm for thicker dreads. Boiling water treatment comes last. This fixes the relief, so it does not flatten over time. Making one Mermaid set by hand takes us 1–3 days.

Care is simple. Once a week, wash only your scalp with shampoo diluted 1:5, then leave the dreads to dry completely in the air. Avoid hot blow dryers and saunas. Never comb or brush the dreads. Work tangles apart by hand. If a knot is badly tangled, you can carefully cut it off. Don’t use conditioner, because it loosens the thin braids of your own hair that hold the dreads. Mixing Mermaid with other textured and double ended dreads

The Mermaid palette layers well with other DaddyDread synthetic sets. Solid platinum ash gives a fully icy install, and pure emerald deepens the green. Curly pieces in mushroom blonde add boho softness. Mixing means ordering a second set too, such as 10 Mermaid dreads with 10 or 20 from another set. The set is reusable. When an install is over, take out the thin braids, braid your hair again and put the dreads back in. You can wear a Mermaid set 2–3 times, for 1.5–2 months each time. Keep the set somewhere dry. You can put it back in straight away, with no rest needed. The ridges look the same at every reinstall.

Synthetic fiber can look cooler or warmer depending on screen and lighting. We shoot in diffused daylight for the closest match.
