Description
Black Grey to Ash Ombré is a set of 50–55 cm double ended curly synthetic dreads with Ariel spiral curls, in a black-grey to ash ombré. The set is made entirely by hand from henlon, a heat-resistant high-temperature fiber. Each dread fades from a black-grey top to ash at the bottom in a single spiral. The Ariel curl pattern shows the whole fade instead of lying flat against your back.
In direct light the strands separate into darker and lighter tones.

How the ombré runs
The top of each dread is black-grey. Here you find the dense 11 cm root, crocheted by hand, which rests on a thin braid of your own hair.
Down the length, the grey lightens gradually into ash at the bottom. Individual strands vary slightly in tone, so the grey never looks flat or metallic.
There is no harsh line in the colour, just a continuous fade. The Ariel spiral wraps around itself and shows more of the transition.
Silver leaf charms hang from braided accent strands, in the same tones as the grey. Thread wraps in a cross-stitch pattern add texture to some braids, and a macramé accent braid completes the decoration. Small pliers are enough to take the charms off their crimp rings or swap them. The photos show sample beads, and the ones you receive may be different.
Henlon curls on a hand-crocheted root
The whole set is made of henlon, a heat-resistant high-temperature fiber. It holds a firm spiral and has a matte finish.
Every Black Grey to Ash Ombré set is made by hand with a crochet hook and a comb. A 0.4 mm hook forms the root, and each dread keeps a thickness of 0.8–1 cm from end to end.
In more than 13 years, the DaddyDread studio has made and shipped over 5,000 sets. Before shipping, every set is checked one last time by a maker with over ten years of experience.
Double ended format
Each DE dread folds over a thin braid of your own hair. It has no loop, so curls hang from both sides of the braid. Every 10 DE pieces therefore give 20 curly ends.
20–30 pieces add curls through your hair, while 40–50 give dense coverage across the head. With fewer pieces, each grey-to-ash strand stands apart. A full install looks like one grey mass that lightens to ash at the ends.
Caring for the curls
Curly dreads need attentive care. Give the spirals a fourteen-day settling period with no water or shampoo. Separate the curls with damp fingers each morning.
Never comb or brush these dreads. Separate tangles with your fingers. A knot that is too badly tangled to separate can be carefully cut off.
After settling, wash the scalp once a week with a diluted sulfate-free shampoo. Rinse the dreads thoroughly with cool water. Blot the water gently with a towel, then leave the dreads to dry in the air.
Do not use conditioner. It loosens the thin braids of your own hair that hold the dreads in place. For sleep, put on a satin bonnet or pile the curls up in a loose pineapple.
Wearing and mixing the set
You can wear the Black Grey to Ash Ombré set for 1.5–2 months per install and reuse it 2–3 times. When taking it out, undo the braids, coil each dread loosely and keep the set in a breathable bag.
The set itself never changes. A colour mix means ordering another set alongside this one. For grey streaks, pair a jet black or espresso set with 10 or 20 of these dreads.
These dreads are crocheted, not wrapped. They suit summer festivals and everyday boho styling. For pairing ideas see the full curly dreads collection, compare formats in the DE vs SE format guide, and see the set moving on DaddyDread YouTube.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Black Grey to Ash Ombré look once installed?
The black-grey top sits at the braid point, and the visible length fades down to ash. From the front, the lighter ash ends frame your face. From the back, the darker sections add depth.
Does the Black Grey to Ash Ombré set turn yellow or dull?
Rinse thoroughly after each wash so no residue stays in the fiber. Chlorinated pool water can leave a faint cast over months, so rinse the dreads right after swimming.
How long does one install of the Black Grey to Ash Ombré last?
About 1.5–2 months. You can put the same set in 2–3 times.
Can I add Black Grey to Ash Ombré dreads to a darker set?
Yes. Order this set together with another one, for example 10 or 20 of these dreads with a solid black or brown set.
How do I look after the silver leaf charms on the Black Grey to Ash Ombré set?
Keep perfume and chlorine off the charms and wipe them with a dry cloth if needed. They come off the crimp rings for cleaning or swapping.
Customer Reviews
Great product and communication, love it!
