Ginger Red Curly Dreadlock Extensions with Gold Leaf Pendants

Brick ginger and bright orange come together in Ginger Red Curly Dreads, a set of curly synthetic DE dreads 50–55 cm long. We make every piece by hand, crocheting the root and letting henlon curls fall beneath it.

The two reds change with the light. In the sun, the bright orange strands stand out against the deeper brick ginger base. In shade, both tones merge into a warm amber that reads as one complex colour.

In each group of 10 DE you get one braided accent strand, three bright orange curly dreads and six in brick ginger. Brick ginger is a rich auburn-copper between chestnut and russet. It is the main tone and keeps the set easy to wear every day.

The bright orange adds the spark. Three pieces per ten catch the light without overwhelming the base. Order 50 and you receive 5 braids, 15 orange pieces and 30 brick ginger pieces. With 70, those numbers become 42, 21 and 7.

Gold-tone leaf and angel-wing pendants hang on the braided accents, attached with plain jump rings. Remove them with pliers for a simpler look, or leave them between the curls. Gold on red recalls autumn colours without tying the set to one season.

Fiber and construction

We use henlon for the curls because this high-temperature fiber handles heat of roughly 150 °C. At the top of every dread is a crocheted root of roughly 11 cm that rests on your braid. Below the root, the Ariel-wave curl needs no styling product. Brick ginger and bright orange strands get the same curl, so the wave pattern matches once installed.

Over more than 13 years, our studio has made and sent out over 5,000 sets. Before shipping, a maker with over ten years in the craft checks each set one last time.

A DE dread has no loop; instead, it is folded over a thin braid made from your own hair. Ten installed pieces give 20 visible curl ends.

Caring for curly dreads

Curly dreads need attentive care. Never comb or brush them; combing destroys the crochet structure.

• Weeks one and two: No washing. Let the curls settle. Every morning, work out any tangles using fingers that are slightly damp.
• Washing: Mix one part sulfate-free shampoo with five parts water. Squeeze it through, focusing on the scalp, and rinse with cool water.
• Drying: Blot with a towel, lay the dreads flat and let them air-dry fully.
• Tangles: Use only your fingers to pull the curls apart. A light spritz of water, scrunched upward with open palms, restores bounce. A knot that is too tangled to undo can be cut away with care.
• Sleep: To protect the curls at the back of your head from rubbing, wear a satin bonnet or a loose pineapple.

Do not use conditioner. Conditioner loosens the thin braids of your own hair that hold the Ginger Red Curly Dreads in place.

You can wear one install for 1.5–2 months, and then the braids should be redone. To remove, unbraid, coil the set loosely and store it in breathable fabric. You can install the same set 2–3 times.

If you want a mix of colours, add a second set to your order. For copper highlights, you could pair 10 Ginger Red Curly Dreads with 10 or 20 dreads from a black or dark brown set. This set itself always keeps the same composition.
