Most synthetic green dreads read as costume — flat poison-green from root to tip, the kind you see in stage rentals and Halloween wigs. Forest Elf takes the opposite road. The crown sits in shadowed brown-green, the tone you find under a moss-covered branch in old-growth woodland, and the body cascades into a saturated forest green that reads like fern fronds rather than highlighter ink.

This set is synthetic dreads for someone who wants a green that looks like the forest, not the costume aisle. The low-temperature kanekalon fiber is pre-pigmented to deep woodland tones — these are heat-resistant synthetic dreads, colour locked in at fiber production, steady through summer heat, warm installs and humidity. Each strand starts as raw low-temperature kanekalon fiber, hand-crocheted in our own studio with the 0.4 mm crochet hook that gives our crochet dreadlock extensions their characteristic compact density. The technique is crochet, worked by hand — no thread wraps holding the strand body together, no machine assistance, no shortcuts.

Once each dread is fully crocheted, we steam-set it by hand, one dread at a time, locking the surface into its compacted smooth form. Steam-set dreads keep that shape on their own because the finish is structural, not styled — it does not wash out and never needs restyling.

Quality control runs in three gates: every strand is ruler-measured for thickness (0.8–1 cm along its whole length), then a length-uniformity pass, then a final colour-consistency review. Caring for steam set dreads: Forest Elf wear and wash

Routine maintenance is short. Synthetic fiber needs no conditioning, does not shed, and does not tangle against itself the way real hair does. Five steps cover everything:

1. Weekly wash — diluted shampoo at roughly a 1:5 ratio, worked into the scalp only, then rinsed. Most weeks a quick rinse is enough; full wash every seven to ten days
2. Air-dry fully — never use a hot blow dryer on the smooth dread extensions. Kanekalon melts at 70–90 °C, so keep any styling heat under 60 °C; once the polished surface goes, it will not recover
3. Avoid saunas and hot blow dryers — same heat rule. Steam rooms, long sauna sessions and direct hair tools all damage the fiber, while a warm bath at around 40 °C is fine. Do not comb or brush the strands; if a tip frays slightly across long wear, work tangles apart with bare fingertips
4. Skip conditioner — kanekalon smooth dreads do not absorb conditioner. It leaves a dulling residue that takes multiple washes to clear
5. Sleep prep — gather the set into a soft loose plait or slip on a satin bonnet. Each install runs six to eight weeks before the braids are redone

Followed correctly, a Forest Elf set goes through two or three installs before you move on to a new one. These are reusable dreads — handmade smooth dreadlock extensions you install again rather than throw away after the first wear, not single-use accessories.

Format reference: full head DE dreads and partial dread set

Forest Elf ships in DE (Double Ended) format only — single strands folded over a braid in a U-bend (no loop component; that is SE-only territory) and hanging on both sides. Double ended synthetic dreads give two strand ends per attachment, doubling visual coverage. Five quantity options run from accent placement to a full head dread set:

DE smooth dreads fold at the middle and hang both ends, so 50 dreads visually reads as roughly 100 strands. A full install for most head sizes runs 40–50 pieces depending on natural hair thickness and target density.
