Description

Brown to Sandy is a set of 50–55 cm double-ended curly synthetic dreads, made by hand from henlon, in medium brown fading to sandy. Each piece has a crocheted root on top, with henlon curls falling in Ariel spirals.

The medium brown upper zone passes through a natural brown middle to sandy ends. There is no stripe and no hard boundary. The Ariel spiral shows every stage of the gradient at once.

Reading the gradient, root to tip

The top zone is a true medium brown, warm and slightly earthy. It sits close to many natural brunette shades, so the step from your own hair to the dread looks soft. Further down, the colour settles into a natural brown.

The lower third lands in a sandy shade. In direct sun the curls look warmer. Indoors or under cloud, the gradient reads as a quiet tonal shift.

The braided accents carry thread wraps in three colours: cream, ginger and brown, in X-stitch patterns. The threads pick up tones from the set and tie the braids into its colour.

A few braids carry silver feather and wing pendants, which bring some metal shine to the earthy colours. Small silver beads and a rose charm complete the decorations. Everything is fixed with crimp rings, so you can swap or remove it. The photos show example beads, and the ones you receive may differ.

For each 10 DE you order, you get one decorated braid and nine curly dreads. With 50 pieces, you receive 5 braids and 45 curly dreads. With 70 pieces, you get 7 braids and 63 curly dreads. Every curly dread carries the full brown-to-sandy fade.

Brown to Sandy: how the set is made

The whole set is made of henlon, a high-temperature, heat-resistant fiber. Its matte surface avoids a synthetic shine. At the top of every dread sits a dense root, worked by hand with a comb and a crochet hook. The Ariel spirals hang below it.

A maker with more than ten years of experience inspects each finished set and checks that the thickness is 0.8–1 cm. Over more than 13 years, the DaddyDread studio has made and shipped 5,000+ sets.

These DE dreads have no loop. Each one is folded over a thin braid of your own hair. Both ends hang down, so ten dreads give twenty visible spiral ends. Your natural hair stays tucked into the thin braids.

Caring for Brown to Sandy curly dreads

Curly dreads need attentive care. Treat the spirals gently and use your hands, not tools.

  • Washing: Mix sulfate-free shampoo with water at 1:5, then start at the scalp and squeeze it through the dreads. Leftover shampoo shows more on the sandy ends, so rinse thoroughly in cool water. Squeeze around the thread wraps instead of pulling them.
  • Conditioner: Do not use it. Conditioner loosens the thin braids of your own hair that hold the dreads in place.
  • Drying: Blot between two towels, with no wringing. Avoid hot drying tools and let the set dry fully before sleeping.
  • Tangles: Never use combs or brushes on the curls. Separate tangled spirals with your fingers. A knot too tangled to undo can be carefully cut off.
  • Overnight: Wear a satin bonnet, or pile the curls loosely on top of your head. The curls at the back then rub less against the pillow.

Expect about 1.5–2 months of wear from each install, and 2–3 installs from one set. To store it, take the dreads out, coil them loosely and keep them in breathable fabric.

To add lighter strands to a darker curly set, buy 10–20 dreads of this set as well. You can also pair it with a caramel set for more warmth. To find matching colours, see the full curly collection. The DE vs SE guide explains the formats, and DaddyDread YouTube shows the fade in motion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which natural hair colour suits Brown to Sandy?

Medium to light brown hair suits it best. The brown top zone overlaps with many brunette shades, so the attachment point blends in well. If your hair is much lighter, a few solid brown dreads near the hairline can smooth the blend.

Can the pendants and beads on Brown to Sandy be removed or replaced?

Yes. Every charm, whether feather, wing or rose, is fixed with a crimp ring. Small pliers open the ring so you can take the charm off or change it. The braids look good bare or decorated.

Why does Brown to Sandy have cream, ginger and brown thread wraps?

The three thread colours pick up tones from the set, so the decorated braids blend with the curly dreads.

Can I comb Brown to Sandy?

No. Combing or brushing ruins the curls and the crochet structure. Work knotted ends apart by hand. If a knot won't come loose, you can carefully cut it off.

How long does one set of Brown to Sandy last?

You can wear each install for about 1.5–2 months. With careful removal and storage, a set serves 2–3 installs.

Do I need a professional to install Brown to Sandy?

A professional gives the neatest result, especially around the hairline. You can also install the set yourself with practice. Fold every dread over a thin braid of your own hair, working from the back of the head toward the front. Step-by-step videos are on YouTube and free in the Academy.

So happy! The light brown roots match my natural color almost perfect, my mum couldnt tell where my hair ended at first. The blonde tips glow when the sun finally comes out (we dont get much of that here in stockholm in winter haha). 5 hours install with my friend, we ran out of coffee twice. One thing, the package smelled a bit weird the first day but it went away after airing out overnight. Already planning the next color, maybe red for autumn.

Love these dreadlocks! The dreadlocks came earlier than expected!!! They matched the color of my hair perfectly! My hair looks thicker! The quality of the hair is amazing — it is very soft, the curls are thicker than expected! They hold their shape well, are lightweight and very pretty. Great price and quality! Definitely recommend! Absolutely LOVE these dreadlocks and would definitely buy again!

the transition from light brown to blonde is so smooth, no harsh line at all which is what made me pick these over a competitor. i have natural balayage already so they basically extend my own color seamlessly. install was supposed to be 4 hrs but we ended up at like 6 because my friend (the installer) kept stopping to take selfies of her progress, and we ordered thai food halfway through. one month in and the only thing i'd note is the curl pattern at the very tips loosens slightly after washing but a quick spritz of water tightens it right back up.
