Courses

At DaddyDread Academy you can learn online how to make dreads, how to install them, how to section the head and how to care for natural dreads. The lessons are taught by Danila Deriabin, who has made dreads for 13+ years, and by Anastasia, our installation specialist. You watch at your own pace and keep lifetime access, and you receive a certificate once you complete a course. More than 200 students have learned with us so far.

Courses in the Academy

• Synthetic Dreadlock Making Course. Eight lessons by Danila on making smooth synthetic dreads with the crochet method, from preparing the kanekalon to the finished dread.
• Braid-In Installation Course. In four lessons Anastasia shows two braid-in methods that work for DE and SE dreads: classic and Scandinavian.
• Full Head Mapping. One 34-minute lesson on the sectioning grid for full-head installs of 50 and 60 DE dreads.
• Crown Sectioning and Back of Head Sectioning. Short lessons on the two areas where installs most often go wrong.
• Sectioning Bundle. All three sectioning lessons together, 66 minutes of video.
• Complete Installation Course. Seven lessons that take you from head sectioning to a finished braid-in install.
• Natural Dreadlock Maintenance. Two lessons on root felting every 5–7 days and crochet hook correction every 3–4 months.

How the courses work

Right after payment you get an email with links to every lesson, all unlocked at once. Lessons play on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and you can rewatch them as often as you like. The courses are taught in English. Every key step is shown on video, so you can follow along even if English is not your first language. If you get stuck, you can ask the instructor directly.

Who the courses are for

Beginners can start from zero, since no experience is needed. Stylists who already work with braids can add dread installs to their services. People with their own natural dreads can learn to care for them at home. If you are unsure which course fits, write to us and we will suggest one.

What you need

To watch, you only need a device with internet access. To practise, each course comes with a materials guide that lists what to buy. For the making course, our smooth and textured sets show what finished dreads look like.
