Description
Chestnut Copper is a set of 50 cm single-ended smooth synthetic dreads, handmade from low-temperature kanekalon, in a warm ombre: chestnut brown at the roots, copper-auburn at the tips. Every dread is steamed smooth by hand. Gold, orange and rust thread wraps are scattered across the set in a relaxed boho way, small brass beads mark where some wraps end, and a few thin braids sit at the sides. Your beads may not look exactly like the ones photographed.
These smooth synthetic dreads change a little with the light: the copper picks up the sun, and the chestnut roots keep the palette grounded. We make the set by hand as smooth dreadlock extensions in the number of pieces you choose.

A warm ombre from chestnut to copper
The base is dark chestnut, a deep brown with a warm red undertone. It looks like natural chestnut smooth dreads, close to dyed hair rather than a costume. Around the middle of each dread the colour starts to change: the chestnut softens, warms up and turns into copper-rust at the tips. Up close the surface is truly smooth. These are classic smooth crochet dreads, with no fuzz, ridges or bumps. These flat dread extensions keep their even line because each dread is treated with steam to fix the material. Seen in person, steam-set dreads look calm and even from root to tip.
The fiber is low-temperature kanekalon, the material of all our kanekalon smooth dreads. The chestnut and copper are part of the fiber, not a coating, so the colour stays the same through every install. It does not like heat, though, so keep it below 60–70 °C. The slim dreads also suit smooth dreads for fine hair, because every dread sits on its own small braid. For a full head you can spread 80–100 SE dreads evenly over the whole head.
Every dread is made by hand with a comb and a crochet hook, then steamed. There is no wrapping instead of crochet and no machine work. Crocheted by hand, dread by dread: that is how the DaddyDread studio makes a smooth set.
These handmade dreadlock extensions are built one dread at a time with real crochet dreadlock extensions technique. Each set of synthetic dreadlock extensions goes through three quality checks: thickness (0.8–1 cm along the whole dread), even length and colour. A maker with more than ten years of experience checks the set before it ships.
This set comes as SE smooth dreads: single ended, 50 cm long. The loop at the top goes onto a strand of your hair, and that strand is then braided around the dread and secured. For a complete install, plan on 80–100 SE dreads: that is a true full head dread set. 40 dreads suit a partial install, and 20 are enough to add chestnut-copper streaks to your own darker hair. Caring for Chestnut Copper: wear, wash and reuse
- Shampoo no more than weekly, diluted about one to five, and only on the scalp; the dreads dry best in open air
- Skip combs and brushes. Work knots at the ends loose by hand, and if one is hopelessly matted, cut it out with care
- Saunas and hot hair dryers are a no: this kanekalon softens past 60–70 °C, and the smooth finish will not recover
- Leave out conditioner, since it makes the strands holding each dread slippery and loose
- Before bed, gather everything into a loose braid or under a sleep cap
Chestnut copper goes well with darker smooth colours. Add some of these smooth dread extensions to a black or espresso smooth set for a sun-kissed accent: order both sets and install them together. The set is fully reusable, like all good reusable dreads. When an install ends, loosen each braid starting at the scalp, shake the set out and keep the dreads in a dry place, in a breathable bag. Do not squeeze them into a tight coil. After steaming, the smooth surface stays the same from the first install to the last. How long does the Chestnut Copper set last?
Plan on 1.5 to 2 months of continuous wear per install with these smooth dread extensions. Steaming during production sets the fiber, which is why the shape survives shampoo, rain and several installs. Most people put the same set in two or three times before moving on to a new one.
Does the copper look more red or more orange?
In daylight the tips read as copper-auburn, between red and orange. Under a warm lamp they look more orange, and in shade they lean towards red-brown. The chestnut roots stay warm brown in any light.
How many Chestnut Copper dreads do I need?
A full head takes 80 to 100 SE dreads. A medium-density look needs 40–60. For streaks only, mixing the chestnut-copper gradient into your own hair, 20 dreads are enough. Every option comes in the same 50 cm length, so the shape stays the same whatever the number.
Can I dye the Chestnut Copper set?
No, synthetic fiber does not take hair dye. The chestnut and copper are set into the fiber during production, and they stay the same through every install. If you want a different palette, order that colour from the start.
What can I mix Chestnut Copper with?
Warm-brown curly dreads and boho-brown textured dreads match it best. Order the second set as well, for example 10 or 20 dreads, and install both together; this set itself does not change. Smooth dreads keep the line clean, and textured or curly ones add volume and movement.
How do I wash the Chestnut Copper set?
Wash once a week at most. Mix shampoo with water about 1:5, massage it into the scalp and let the foam run down the length; do not scrub the smooth dread extensions themselves. Rinse until the water runs clear, skip conditioner and let the set air-dry on a towel. A hot hair dryer would spoil the smooth surface for good.
