Description

These brown blonde boho ombre textured dread extensions go from chocolate-brown roots through warm caramel to light, sun-bleached tips. They are three-tone synthetic dreadlock extensions made by hand with a crochet hook and a comb, and the bumpy surface is set with boiling water so it stays. From the first install they have a mature loc look, not the fresh look of new synthetic dreads.

Eight to ten thread wraps in cream, chocolate and copper-brown run along the dreads. White wooden beads sit on some of them, and gold-tone star, leaf and wing pendants hang near the middle. Brown-striped natural feathers are tied to three or four tips with thread. The relief makes these brown blonde textured dreads look as if they have been worn for a while, which gives them an organic look.

Boho Textured Dread Extensions with Sun-Bleached Tips

Brown-to-blonde ombre is one of the colours our customers ask for most, and we have been making textured dreads for 13+ years. On your own hair this kind of relief takes months to form; with these dreads you have it on the day you put them in. If these are your first bohemian dreadlocks and you are not sure which format to choose, read our DE vs SE comparison guide. The set is a good start if you want raw synthetic dreads with a worn-in finish.

The colour changes in three steps. The roots are deep chocolate brown, almost espresso. The middle is lighter, caramel with a touch of honey. The tips are sandy blonde, and the ridged texture looks slightly different on each shade. The bumpy surface is equally dense from top to tip because we set it with boiling water, so there are no flat spots.

Cream wooden beads sit on some of the dreads. Cream and chocolate cotton thread wraps cross down the dread, and copper-brown thread on two or three dreads adds warmth.

The pendants are small gold-tone metal stars, leaves and wings, and brown-striped natural feathers are tied at three or four tips. Every set comes with one thin 3-strand braid for every 10 DE dreads (or every 20 SE dreads). It helps the dreads blend with your own hair, which matters if you want natural-looking synthetic dreads.

Hand-Crocheted Kanekalon Textured Dreads, Boiling-Water-Set

Each dread is handmade in three steps. First the fiber is backcombed with a comb. Then it is crocheted, loop by loop, usually with a 0.4 mm crochet hook, or a 0.6 mm hook for thicker dreads. Finally the dread is treated with boiling water to fix the relief. A full textured set takes 1–3 days of hand work in our studio. Backcombing, crocheting, boiling water: that is how we make all our textured dreads.

All dreads in the set are made of Kanekalon. The relief survives rain, humidity and long wear. The dread holds together through crochet braiding alone, with no machines and no wrapping. After the boiling water the surface stays bumpy for good, so you get an instant mature look without months of waiting.

Each dread is 0.8–1 cm thick along its whole length, and every finished set is checked by a maker with more than ten years of experience. This is how every one of our 5,000+ sets shipped worldwide was made.

How to Wear DE and SE Textured Dread Extensions and Reuse the Set

There are two formats. DE textured dreads fold over a thin braid of your own hair. They have no loop, both ends hang free, and they suit a full-head install. SE textured dreads have a loop at the top. The loop goes onto a strand of your hair, and that strand is then braided around the dread and secured. SE works well for accents or a partial set.

A full head takes 40–50 DE dreads or 80–100 SE. For a partial install, 20–30 DE dreads are enough. You will find matching shades in the full textured dread collection, and our article on dreadlock texture types explains textured vs smooth dreadlocks in detail. These double ended textured dreads also mix well with our other crochet dreadlock extensions from the textured collection.

One install lasts 1.5–2 months, then the braids are redone. The dreads come out without harming your own hair. The set is reusable: most customers wear the same handmade dreadlock extensions two or three times, and the relief is still there each time. The set needs no rest between installs and can go straight back in.

Washing: once a week, wash your scalp with shampoo diluted 1:5 with water. Let the dreads air-dry and do not use a hot hair dryer. Skip conditioner: the dreads are braided onto a thin braid of your own hair, and conditioner makes that braid come loose faster. The DaddyDread Academy has detailed care and installation videos.

Detangling: do not comb or brush textured dreads. Separate tangled tips gently with your fingers. If a knot is badly tangled, you can carefully cut it off.

Heat: keep the dreads away from saunas and other strong heat. The relief is permanent, but high heat can still damage it.

Storage: before you put the set away, let it dry fully and keep it in a dry place.

One more time, because it matters most: no strong heat near these dreads. Saunas and hot hair dryers only damage the relief.

This ombre looks good next to smooth dreads in similar shades, where the bumpy and smooth surfaces contrast nicely. You can also add a darker textured ombre for a deeper colour.

You can check the delivery time and price for your country under the buy button. The decorations in the photos (beads, thread wraps, pendants and feathers) come with the set, though your beads may not match the photos exactly. The yellow dress, gold chain and macramé in our studio photos are props and are not part of the order. The colours were photographed in soft daylight, and your screen may show them slightly warmer or cooler.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does this boho ombre set last?

One install lasts about 1.5–2 months. The relief of these textured dread extensions is set with boiling water, so it does not wash out. Most customers install the same set two or three times.

Can I mix this set with smooth or curly dreads?

Yes. Order a second set as well, for example 10 or 20 smooth or curly dreads, and install both together. Nothing changes inside this set. Smooth dreads are treated with steam and stay flat, so they contrast with the bumpy relief of this set. We make all of them by hand with pure crochet braiding, using a crochet hook and a comb.

Can I add my own wraps or charms to this set?

Yes. The ridged texture is fixed in the fiber and does not get damaged easily, so you can add thread wraps, beads and pendants the same way as on natural dreads. This set already comes with wooden beads, gold-tone pendants and feathers. If you add your own, wrap thread above the decoration so it does not slide.

Is this set suitable for fine or thin hair?

Yes. The dreads are installed with the braid attachment method: each dread sits on its own small braid of your hair, and the braids are spread evenly over the head. We recommend DE for fine hair because each dread folds over its braid, so both ends pull on it evenly. SE gives you more freedom if you only want a few dreads in certain places.

Is this set handmade?

Yes. Every dread is made by hand by our dread makers in our studio, with no machines and no wrapping. Each set goes through the same three steps: backcombing, crocheting with a 0.4–0.6 mm hook, and setting the relief with boiling water. We have been making textured dreads for 13+ years.

Honestly stunning, the feathers really do pop in person and feel sturdy not flimsy. One of the smaller feathers came loose at week 2 but I just used a tiny bit of glue and its been fine since. The textured surface paired with the ombre gives such a lived in look. Would have been 5 stars if all the feathers stayed put on their own but its a small thing.

the feathers!! 🪶 boho perfection. the textured surface paired with feathers and ombre is so good for festival season. got these in time for burning man and they survived the desert (which says something, i dont think my sanity did). would recommend for any dusty event tbh

the feathers are EVERYTHING. wore them to coachella and was getting stopped every 5 minutes for photos, my friends were getting annoyed lol. the boho ombre is so dreamy, like sunset hair. they survived three festival weekends and a glitter incident, still look brand new after washing
