Caring for steam set dreads: weekly wash, no comb, no brush
Wash: once a week, diluted shampoo (one part shampoo to five parts water), scalp only, never down the dread length. Skip conditioner — synthetic fiber cannot absorb it, and any residue will dull the grey tips. Rinse with cool to lukewarm water until no foam remains.
Heat: never use a hot blow dryer, never sit in a sauna, and keep any styling heat under 60 °C. The fiber melts at 70–90 °C, and heat well below that already deforms the steam-set surface permanently — the lavender mid-tone is the first to go.
Comb/brush: never. Do not comb or brush the smooth dreads — gently separate any tangled tips with bare fingertips only.
Sleep: loose plait or satin bonnet so tips do not roll through the night. Avoid saunas and hot blow dryers in the morning routine.
